Han Po-wei

Turning first-year students with no teaching experience into instructors capable of leading a coding camp for a hundred schoolchildren — and having them learn as much as they teach — is the spine of this course design. Working from the principle of learning by doing and doing by learning, the course runs on two parallel tracks, coding camps and community outreach, which together widened both the reach and the staying power of computing education.

In preparation, Professor Han not only planned forward-looking short courses on AWS Cloud AI and Godot game development, but also designed guided worksheets that systematically helped students clarify their teaching goals and manage their time. To safeguard the quality of the service, he put students through rigorous mock teaching before the camps opened, giving concrete feedback on each. From securing outside funding to putting students in front of a real class, his accompaniment deepened their technical knowledge and taught them to see through someone else's eyes, turning dry code into a contribution with warmth in it.
